Every Day Is A Fresh Beginning!

I walked outside this morning to allow the dogs to do their thing....sniff, sniff, and snifff some more before doing you know what! I took a new moment to take a fresh look, and smell, of my surroundings.
We had a fairly good rain last night in Puget Sound. Looking out over Gig Harbor you couldn't see much for the heavy mist the showers created. A few harbor lights managed to shine through the rain, the clouds pregnant with more moisture, the moon not visible at all, one would think that the look was dreary and depressing.
But upon awakening this morning, going outside with my dogs, I could see the telling signs of what a good rain leaves behind. The sun was shining, but the air was cool and moist. The Goldfinches were fluttering around and singing their songs of freedom and happiness. The rain had undoubtedly uncovered more food sources and all of the animals in the dense forest seemed to holler out with enthusiasm!
I sat down under our covering that is gilded by the grapevines that are growing in abundance this time of year. I could smell the woodsy scent of wet vines, tree trunks and posts that support the grapevines. All around me on the earth's floor I saw nature at work. Slugs sliding carelessly across the walkway, bees buzzing around the blossoms of floral display and I couldn't help but feel a sense of complete happiness, fulfillment and purpose.
Just two nights ago I sat in my bed with a pounding headache, getting out of bed every 15 minutes or so to vomit my brains out, listening to the fireworks of Independence Day and crying for all of the animals of the forest who seemed to be moaning, groaning and whaling at the sound and the glitter of the display in the sky. I couldn't understand how mankind can so selfishly indulge himself in activities that frighten the most innocent of creatures, God's animals.
Today, like the animals in their own kingdom, I try to push the reminders of anything past far behind me. I attempt to look at the world all fresh and new and go forward, far beyond my memories. Like the animals, I have instinct that will guide my footsteps of today and my future days. But also like the animals, I need to forget the actual situation and forge on like nothing ever happened.
They say time heals everything. I guess it does, if you let it.
